Background:
Contraception policy and practice in BC changed substantially in 2023, including the launch of Canada’s first universal contraception subsidy (April 1 2023) and pharmacist scope expansion granting prescribing authority for contraception (June 1 2023).  Together, these changes may expand access to contraception for BC residents, though impacts on access and on patient and provider experiences are not yet known. This study explores pharmacists’ experiences, perceptions, challenges, and opportunities related to contraception prescribing after these policy changes. Your contribution is essential for this research, which may benefit the pharmacy profession, broader healthcare community, and patients.

This study, led by a research team from the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Contraception and Abortion Research Team, aims to understand pharmacist perspectives and experiences related to contraception prescribing and the factors that facilitate and limit this service.

Objectives:
The objectives of this study are to 1) understand BC pharmacists’ activities, perspectives, and intentions related to contraception prescribing and 2) identify barriers to contraception provision and potential mitigation strategies.

Eligibility:
Pharmacists will be eligible to participate in this study if they:
1) Work as a pharmacist in a community pharmacy, primary care setting, or hospital setting within British Columbia
2) Are listed as a registered pharmacist by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia
